TagSoup 1.0 is now final!

John Cowan has released the final 1.0 version of TagSoup. What is TagSoup? It's a parser for cleaning up non-well formed HTML (I've had the pain of previously cleaning other people's messy code/content with some help from HTMLTidy, but mostly by hand. This mess is often called Tag Soup, or worse...).

John's parser cleans up the mess and creates well-formed XHTML. It's an immense time saver. More details and the download are available here: http://mercury.ccil.org/~cowan/XML/tagsoup/.

Bon apetit!

Saxon 8.7.3 now available!

Michael Kay has released a new version Saxon, the world's finest XSLT parser. Don't believe me? Give Saxon 8.7.3 at try here: http://saxon.sourceforge.net/#F8.7.3SA

Saxon 8 includes support for XSLT 2.0, XPath 2.0 and XQuery. It's the first XSLT parser that I recommend, as I've had nothing but success in working with it.

Bob DuCharme has a great article on XQuery and Saxon at: http://www.xml.com/pub/a/2005/03/02/xquery.html

Something Good released on 6/6/6

Something really Good has been released on 6/6/6: the new version of oXygen XML Editor!

New features in version 7.2 include: a complete Subversion client, an XML Schema instance generator, integration with the X-Hive/DB, MarkLogic and TigerLogic XML databases, editing actions on the diagram and search references/declarations actions in XML Schema and Relax NG schemata editors.

I'm most excited about the Subversion client and MarkLogic support! If you haven't used this editor, you really should try it: http://www.oxygenxml.com/

New DocBook schema releases: 4.5RC3, 5.0b6

Norm Walsh posted releases of DocBook V4.5RC3 and V5.0b6 during my vacation last week.

The new version of 4.5 corrects an SGML parsing error reported with CR2. While the schema is an official DocBook TC release, this will delay the official release as an OASIS standard.

The 5.0b6 includes the person and org elements I fought hard for, as well as some changes to allow MathML and SVG in imagedata, modifier to appear in more places (for aspect-oriented programming docs), and db.publishing.inlines allowed in db.bibliographic.elements.

The schemas are available at: 4.5CR3 and 5.0b6

I also got my DocBook shirt and bumper sticker last week. They look great!
